Results:
With Hospital Physician Partners' leadership working with hospital administration, a midlevel provider was added to the practice. This midlevel provider does hospital discharges and progress notes on some of the hospitalist medical/surgical patients. Also, the Hospital Physician Partners Hospitalist practice administrator tracks all Hospitalist patient activities and referral sources and faxes a letter to the primary care provider on admission and discharge.
Hospital Physician Partners was able to add a midlevel provider to this Hospitalist practice without any increase in hospital subsidy. We were able to pay the salary of this midlevel provider from the improved documentation and appropriate distribution of workload for this hospitalist practice. Prior to adding our midlevel provider, this Hospitalist practice was only accepting an average of 2 new patients per day. Also, the practice administrator along with our Hospitalist Medical Director has successfully recruited 90% of all local primary care physicians to use Hospital Physician Partners' Hospitalist program.
